The Republic of Serbia must ensure long-term energy stability, which is perceived as a key factor for preserving its economic and political independence. In this context, the current negotiations with the Russian Federation regarding the extension of the gas arrangement represent a strategic priority.
On that occasion, Dr. Predrag Škobalj, Assistant Director for Technological Development of the Institute for Nuclear Sciences "Vinča", spoke about the importance of Serbia's long-term gas arrangement with Russia for the country's energy stability and independence in the program of the Radio and Television of Serbia dedicated to the energy situation. His guest appearance provides an important perspective in the context of Serbia's ongoing efforts to ensure a continuous supply of energy.
Dr. Predrag Škobalj said that the energy transition of Serbia and the region will be discussed at the international conference held in Belgrade.
"At the conference, which will be held as part of the HORIZON 2020 project - "Initiate", not only the energy transition of the Western Balkans will be discussed, but there will be 4 panels where the following topics will be discussed: Energy transition of the electricity industry in the region, Energy production from renewable energy sources, energy efficiency in buildings, hydrogen, Use of nuclear energy for peacetime purposes (electricity production) - current state, perspectives and development and Cooperation scientific and educational institutions and the economy.
The forum is organized by the Vinča Institute together with the Electric Power Company of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and with the institutional support of the Electric Power Company of Serbia, the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, the Ministry of Mining and Energy of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, the Society of Thermal Engineers of Serbia, Energy of the Balkans and the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, where the forum will be held."
Analysis of the current geopolitical environment indicates the complexity of the energy transition and diversification of supply sources. However, in the current circumstances, a long-term gas supply agreement with the Russian Federation is positioned as an essential element of Serbia's energy security.
From the aspect of scientific and research activity, energy stability, including a reliable gas supply, indirectly affects the possibility of conducting advanced research and development projects.
