The Director of the Vinča Institute, Dr. Slavko Dimović, spoke to the Blic.rs portal about the importance of nuclear energy for Serbia’s future, the role of the Institute as a pillar of scientific development, and the concrete steps that need to be taken to build domestic capacity in this field.
In the article titled "Nuclear Energy Through the Lens of the Vinča Institute: Dr. Slavko Dimović Reveals What This Institution Represents Today on the Scientific Map of the Republic of Serbia", Dr. Dimović emphasizes that the Institute today is much more than a scientific institution — it is a “city of knowledge and innovation” where solutions applicable to the fields of energy, healthcare, environmental protection, industry, and many others are being developed.
“Without knowledge and innovation, there is no progress. It’s a difficult, but the only correct path. On that path, the Vinča Institute — as our largest scientific research organization — is ready to provide support and be a solid foundation in building Serbia’s first nuclear power plant,” said Director Dimović.
In the interview, he also highlighted the significance of lifting the decades-long moratorium on nuclear energy development, pointed out the urgent need for training expert personnel, and called for joint efforts from all relevant stakeholders — the government, universities, and scientific institutions.
