The SHIFT project aims to shift and solve the challenge of producing scalable,

freestanding transition metal oxide (TMO) membranes, which offer exceptional flexibility and adaptability for advanced quantum devices and energy-efficient technologies. By employing state-of-the-art methods such as Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD), Angle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy (ARPES), and Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM), the project develops innovative approaches that shift the boundaries of current fabrication and characterization techniques for these materials.

Through the collaboration enabled by this project, knowledge transfer, capacity building, and joint innovation are actively promoted, creating a shift in the research ecosystem by integrating expertise from Serbian and diaspora researchers. The partnership with the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), a world-leading research institution, provides Serbian researchers with access to cutting-edge infrastructure, advanced methodologies, and expertise in materials science. This collaboration not only enhances the skills and knowledge of Serbian scientists but also positions Serbia as an active participant in high-impact, globally relevant research.

The project’s expected outcomes include a significant shift in the ability to produce defect-free TMO membranes, a deeper understanding of their properties, and a transformative shift in the foundation for future research and industrial applications in materials science.
